Description

A bicycle lock and an air pump. An observation of both objects: they share the same context, yet are differently present and exist separately from one another. Rather than placing them in opposition, they are brought together into a shared artefact.
Lock and air pump interlock formally and functionally. What initially appears as a bicycle lock can be transformed into an air pump in just a few steps. The cut-resistant textile sleeve of the lock becomes part of the pump’s air hose, while the valve simultaneously functions as part of the locking mechanism. The availability of the air pump is extended by drawing on a component that is already present on almost every bicycle, the lock.
