Description

The familiar appearance of a paper kitchen roll on the dining table or in the kitchen is decontextualised, as both its materiality and intended use are shifted. It becomes an object that may initially unsettle. Its use, application and tactile experience contradict what is familiar, while the visual language of the original is preserved.
The resulting carafe retains not only the familiar proportions and surface texture of the kitchen roll but also one of its inherent property, its liquid-absorbing quality. With glazing applied only to the interior, the exterior surface remains unsealed, allowing it to absorb dripping water quite like a paper kitchen roll.
This reinterpretation of an everyday artifact invites interaction with and reflection on the objects we encounter in daily life.
